Worship

Baptismal waters of grace splash into the font.  We breathe deeply, in silence, of the presence of the Spirit all around us.  Then we sing: praising God who meets our waiting bodies, hearts and minds.  This is how we begin our worship, readying our whole being to encounter the Living Word of God.  With song and story and prayer, each Sunday we rehearse the drama of God’s saving way with us, and the world, in order to prepare to play our part in healing the world.  Worship forms are limited only by our imagination’s capacity to respond to the Holy Spirit.

God is pleased to bless our worship experience through:

  • simple props and symbolic actions,
  • engaging in conversational “sermons” with the preacher
  • dramatic storytelling when “Bible people” show up
  • self-directed worship and multi-sensory experiences
  • Stagecraft, dance, music and art.

All these forms are used in the service of expressing our Christian faith in our ever- changing world and to enrich our relationship and understanding of how to love all people in the name of Christ. We worship in the round, seeing the face of Christ in each other and practicing Christ’s peace despite our many differences.  You are welcome to seek God with us in our worship.

Sanctuary

Christ Church has several unique and versatile worship spaces. Our pew-less indoor sanctuary allows for creative worship expression and innovative worship landscapes that make room for the Spirit to move. With ceiling to floor windows on three corners of our sanctuary looking out on five acres of church grounds, we are invited to worship with all creation the Creator of all things.

Labyrinth

“It is solved by walking”       ~St. Augustine

Walking meditation is an ancient and interfaith practice for seeking guidance from God. At least one Sunday a year, we outline a labyrinth on the sanctuary floor and place worship stations around it to enhance our individual and communal journey with Christ. There is also an outdoor labyrinth open to the public dawn to dusk.

Taize

“All the noise, noise, noise, NOISE!”    ~Dr. Seuss

We frantically try to find silence to focus on God’s presence in our everyday, noisy life. Several times a year we offer a contemplative service centered on simple music, Scripture reading, prayer, and silence. It comes from the ecumenical Christian Community in Taize, France founded in 1940 by Brother Roger Schutz.  For many who attend, the most challenging aspect of this service is the five full minutes of blissful silence. Together in silence, scripture, song and prayer we seek to experience a small portion of the peace of God.

Interfaith

There are hundreds of paths up the mountain,
all leading in the same direction,
so it doesn’t matter which path you take.
The only one wasting time is the one
who runs around and around the mountain,
telling everyone that his or her path is wrong. ~Hindu teaching

Several times a year we worship in the Jewish and Muslim traditions to honor the One God who we seek in different religious forms.
